Obituary of Carmela Gerardi

Carmela Gerardi, known as Mel to her family and friends passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. Mel was born in Mt Kisco, NY, daughter of the late Madeline Arena and James Arena, long time residents of Mt Kisco. On March 25, 1945, Mel was united in marriage to Lawrence S. Gerardi USN at St Francis of Assisi Church in Mt Kisco. Mr. Gerardi pre-deceased her on May 17, 2002. Mrs. Gerardi graduated from St Francis Catholic School, Mt Kisco High School and the New York School of Business in Manhattan. She worked for a short time at Readers Digest and a publishing house in New York City. Mel was then employed as Secretary/Administrative Assistant to the Publisher of the Patent Trader for twenty years. Mel then worked as a legal and legislative Secretary to Mary Goodhue of the New York State Senate. Mrs. Gerardi was known for her willingness to volunteer whenever and wherever was needed. She and her husband were long-time volunteers with FISH in Mt Kisco and acted as chauffeurs to anyone requiring assistance. Mel was a former member of St Mathias Church Choir and past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Sisqua Council , Knights of Columbus. Mel is survive by many loving nieces and nephews and was blessed by many dear godchildren who were very dear to her. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Lawrence, cherished son Larry Jr., her brother Joseph Arena Sr., three sisters, Terry Arena, Josephine Tarracciano and Ann Buzzetto Schutte and two nephews Joseph Arena Jr. and James H. Buzzetto. Friends and Family may call at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY on Friday, November 17 from 4- 8 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mary’s RC Church, 55 Valley Road, Katonah, NY on Saturday, November 18 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St Francis Cemetery.236 Lexington Ave. Mt Kisco, NY.
