Posts to the tribute of Arlene Engle

I grew up with Collen, Kim , and Kyle. Arlene and Tom were the nicest people. Brings back a lot of good memories.

I have been fortunate to know Arlene for over forty years. She has been a volunteer in so many capacities, but I think the crown jewel of her life was her impact on a very vulnerable population. For over twenty years, Arlene was chairperson of the Advisory Committee for three (!) group homes for the developmentally disabled. Two were in Bedford (one for women, the other for men) and the third was a home for men in Katonah. She was tireless in accomplishing improvements in all their daily lives, including being instrumental in orchestrating the NYS super fund to remedy their toxic well-water situation in Bedford. In 1997, Arlene was named Volunteer of the Year for ALL of Westchester County. It was quite a celebration at a major hotel in White Plains with hundreds in attendance with keynote speakers, including the County Legislator. She was chosen from over 145 nominations. It was a wonderful day for all of us to witness a wonderful person receiving this tribute. She is dearly missed.
