Obituary of Edward J. Delaney, Jr.
Edward (Eddie) J. Delaney Jr., 77, of South Salem, NY, passed away on March 31, 2025. Born in Boston, MA on December 10, 1947, he grew up in Yorktown Heights, NY. Eddie attended St. Mary’s High School where he left his mark as a standout athlete on their cross country, basketball, and baseball teams. He went on to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering from Villanova University in 1970.
From a young age, Eddie could be found working at his father’s service station, where he became an ace auto mechanic and coined his signature catchphrase, “Happy Motoring.” His engineering talents shaped a 35-year career with the County of Westchester, where he played a key role in major water and construction projects. Even after retiring in 2010, his passion for the field never waned, and he continued his work as a consultant for Bibbo & Associates. Eddie made his home in South Salem, NY, on the shores of Lake Waccabuc, where he found joy in life by the water, especially out on his boat. For many years he served as President of the Waccabuc Association and played a key role in organizing the end-of-lake-season tradition of festivities with bagpipe music.
More than anything, Eddie will be remembered for his magnetic personality, infectious humor, and legendary storytelling. No matter the setting, if Eddie was on a barstool, laughter was never far behind. To his softball buddies, he will always be “God Frog,” the fearless leader of a merry band of misfits—who rarely won but always had a great time.
A devoted Boston Red Sox fan, Eddie managed to survive life among a sea of Yankees supporters. In football season, his heart belonged to the New York Giants, and for over 30 years, he led a dedicated tailgating crew in both celebration and heartbreak.
At the center of Eddie’s life was his beloved wife of 40 years, Gail—affectionately known by many as "Saint Gail"—who was his rock and greatest supporter. He is survived by Gail, his brother Mike (Maricel), and his nieces and nephew: Cara, Caitlin, Kevin, Casey, and Kylerose. Eddie was predeceased by his loving parents, Marie Rose Delaney and Edward J Delaney Sr.
Eddie’s warmth, wit, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved will be dearly missed but forever cherished by all who had the joy of knowing him.
