Obituary of John P. Gallo
John Peter Gallo, 90, of Somers, NY, formerly of Port Chester, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Phelps Memorial Hospital.
Born on November 7, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, John was the son of the late Joseph and Jennie Gallo. He graduated from William E. Grady High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy.
Following his military service, John embarked on a fulfilling 35-year career at Con Edison, where he worked as a Procurement Specialist. Known for his resourcefulness and craftsmanship, he was the original “DIY” man—always building or fixing something, often with the soaring voice of Luciano Pavarotti playing in the background.
One of John’s greatest passions was the game of handball. A fierce competitor with boundless energy, he played across courts all over the tri-state area, earning the respect and friendship of fellow players wherever he went. Whether it was a spirited match in a Brooklyn park or a friendly rivalry in the Bronx, handball was more than a sport to John—it was a lifelong love.
He also enjoyed bowling for many years and later discovered a deep appreciation for the game of bocce, where his competitive spirit continued to shine.
John was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet (Di Perna), his children Joseph (Barbara) of Greenwich, CT, and Gina (Glenn) Giordano of Port Chester, NY, and his cherished grandchildren: Joseph (Aria), Julia (Uri), Nicholas, Cory, and Miles. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
John's kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY 10536.
