Obituary of Wayne Stanford
In Loving Memory of Robert “Wayne” Stanford
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Wayne Stanford, who left us peacefully on May 10, 2025, after a brave and strong battle with illness, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 80 years old.
A man of quiet strength, integrity, and unwavering dedication, Wayne was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Marilyn Stanford and leaves behind an admiring sister, Linda Stanford Ciancuillo. He shared 55 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Virginia (Ginny) Stanford, building a life filled with love, partnership, and shared memories. They raised their daughter, Megan (Muffie) Stanford-Greenwald who brought immense pride and joy to his life. She, along with her husband Nicholas Greenwald, raised his only grandson, Jack, the light of his world. Wayne cherished every moment spent with him in his most important role of a lifetime, as “Papa”.
Wayne and Jack shared a bond that was as deep as it was joyful. Their time together was filled with laughter, wisdom, and love. And Jack cherished every moment spent with his grandfather, whose gentle spirit and kind heart left an indelible mark on his life.
The embodiment of a classic gentleman, Wayne was gracious, thoughtful, humble and unfailingly kind. He approached life with dignity, humility, and a quiet confidence that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—tending to his garden, completing crossword puzzles and sudoku with remarkable focus, playing a good game of Tetris on the Gameboy and cheering for his beloved New York Yankees and New York Giants. A former golfer and lifelong fan of golf and tennis, he appreciated the grace and challenge of the game even after he no longer played.
Meticulously organized and deeply considerate, Wayne brought care and intention to all he did. His calm presence, wise counsel, and steady support were gifts to his family and friends. He will be profoundly missed by all who loved him, but his legacy of integrity, quiet strength, and gracious spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A private service will be held for immediate family, with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or a donation, the next time you watch the Yankees or the Giants, raise a glass to toast Wayne, remembering his spirit and his quiet kindness which he extended to all.
