Obituary of Patricia B. Thompson

Patricia B. Thompson

March 7th, 1930 – June 15th, 2025

Patricia Thompson, of Mount Kisco, NY, and, more recently, Redding, CT passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Father’s Day, June 15, 2025.

Patricia was born in Hartford, CT and raised in West Hartford, CT to the late Goodwin Batterson and Edith Durrant Beach on March 7th,1930. Her family had a long history in New England and especially Hartford, CT. Her great grandfather, James Goodwin Batterson, was the founder of the Travelers Insurance Company and was also a builder who built the Connecticut State Capitol, Newport’s Marble House and was appointed by Abraham Lincoln to build the US Library of Congress. She is also a descendant of UK born Ozias Goodwin, the founder of Hartford, CT and William Bradford, an author of the Mayflower Compact and the 2nd Governor of the Plymouth Colony.

Patricia graduated from Sweet Briar College and then attended the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City and the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-Upon-Avon, UK.

She grew up with a great sense of adventure. Following her time at the Shakespeare Institute, she traveled solo to the Outer Hebrides Islands in Scotland to climb the coastal cliffs and later made her way to Istanbul with her sister, Penny.

After meeting and marrying Calvin A. Thompson of New York City in July of 1959, they had four children and one beautiful angel, Megan Ariel.

After their children had grown, Patricia and Calvin traveled the world and indulged a particular passion for exploring the less trodden paths, with trips to remote places such as Kashmir, Tibet, and Bhutan. She even took a twelve-day trek on foot to the center of the forbidden Kingdom of Mustang in the heart of the Himalayas.

In 2019, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and six decades of true adventure. Together, they inspired their children and many others to live life to the fullest.

Patricia was also very involved in her community, particularly the NY Chapter of the Herb Society of America and the Italian American Club of Northern Westchester. She performed in community theater and several one-woman plays, was an avid supporter of community concerts, and held numerous volunteer roles in the town of Mt. Kisco, including as a board member of the Mt. Kisco Beautification Committee. She was also a longtime active member and Lay Reader at Saint Matthew’s Church in Bedford, NY.

Surviving Patricia are her children, Melissa T. Fischer, Jennifer A. Thompson, C. Alexis B. Thompson, and Thaddeus A. G. Thompson; son-in-law and daughters-in-law Stephen E. Fischer, Carmelina R. Thompson, and Lucia B. Thompson, and Debbie Blanchard; grandchildren Nathaniel, Jonathan, Arielle, Justin, Oliver, and Felix; twelve great-grandchildren; and her sister Penelope Beach Chittenden.

Visiting hours will be 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Rd, Katonah, NY 10536 on Monday, June 23rd.

The funeral service will be at Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church, 382 Cantitoe St, Bedford, NY on Tuesday, June 24th at 1:00 PM. Patricia will be laid to rest beside her husband, Calvin, in the St. Matthew’s Cemetery following the service.
