I express my condolences to all the relatives of Daniel Samuels. He was my penpal, I acquainted with him in 2016 on the language exchange website. We were speaking in Skype many times. I sincerely admire the fact that he could speak the Russian language which is hard enough for English speakers. I remember we talked with him about different topics like history, travel, languages and so on. He helped me a few times by practicing speaking Spanish language with him. He shared with me his travel photos of different countries and was telling his detailed experience of visiting exactly my city Saint Petersburg. It was a pleasure to talk with him. I regret that I didn't have a chance to communicate with him for the past three years.
Once again, my deep condolences. I know what it is to lose a relative, my mother died last year.

As a longtime family friend of his son Howie, Dan was always Mr. Samuels to me. A unique, highly intelligent, and fascinating man, he never failed to amaze me. I can still recall seeing him playing chess at the Armonk Fair (Fol-d-Rol) in the early1980s, facing 7 or 8 opponents simultaneously and chatting casually with strangers while occasionally glancing at the various chess boards and beating them all. I competed in my first run, the New Rochelle Biathlon with Dan and his son, and he left us both in the dust. His foreign language capabilities were unbelievable as well. He was one of a kind and will be missed. Our sincerest condolences and sympathy to Iris and his extended family. Rest in peace Dan.

My Cousin Dan was always the big brother I never had. Whenever we visited New York he would take me to the zoo. He was so knowledgeable about all the animals and had made friends with the keepers and could even go inside some exhibits. In our later years we connected regularly on Skype and he loved to "show me off" to his multi-national chatting friends that I could speak Spanish and Arabic. He said I got the language gene from his mother's side (My father was her brother) and he called me a "Super Leviash"
Dan & Iris came down to Costa Rica where we live to visit us many times and we met up with the whole family twice. Dan & Iris were both so important to me and I loved having time to spend with them. In the last few years Dan and I talked once a week...without fail. It was our tradition and he always talked in Spanish to me....even just a few days before he passed. I will miss him terribly..he was the last link to my father and maybe the last person who remembered him. Rest in peace Cousin Dan. I will miss you so much.
My sincere condolences to my cousins, his children and grandchildren and to all who loved and knew him.

Daniel was a unique and very special man who bedazzled me with his many talents, wit and intelligence. He was a chess Master, a boxer, an engineer and a self-taught, multilinguist who’d get into long conversations with NYC taxi drivers (and almost anyone else he’d run across whose native language wasn’t English), always in their mother tongue. And just for the challenge, he’d run the occasional marathon.
I cherish the memories of the bond that my parents shared with Dan and Iris as well. All four instantly clicked and truly savored the times they shared at family occasions or just over a meal.
.
I am blessed to have had Daniel in my life in a very special way. Dan’s influence on me will never be diminished.
From Reyna and me, we offer our most profound sympathy, condolences and love to the entire family.
RIP Dan ❤️
One-of-a-kind.
