DANIEL SAMUELS OBITUARY
Daniel Samuels of Armonk, NY passed away on June 22, He was 95.
His parents were the late Lillian and Milton Samuels.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Iris, two daughters, Adrienne Lyublinsky, (Mikhail), Bonnie Todman (Bill), a son, Howard Samuels (Ludmila) and six grandchildren (Jessica, Lukian, Jason, Lily, Taylor and Jillian).
Daniel passed peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
In his early years he lived in Pelham Manor, NY after which the family moved to Mt. Vernon where he graduated from the local schools. He briefly attended the Univ. of Wisconsin and then transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering.
In much of his career he was a Principal Engineer for Hardesty & Hanover Consulting Engineers. Aside from his profession he was devoted to several outside interests, such as chess where he held a Master ranking and won some regional titles.
Daniel and Iris shared a profound interest in animals, which they pursued after a memorable honeymoon in East Africa.
In the 60’s and 70’s he served as the New York District Representative for the East African Wild Life Society. At one time his family raised a pet bear (never in a cage), about which he later wrote a book, “Molly and Me - the Story of a Bear”, a copy of which may be found in the NY Public Library and on Amazon.
Daniel was also an avid linguist and was fluent in Spanish, Russian and Swahili. Daniel engaged in boxing as a hobby. Often at lunchtime he would go to the nearby Times Square Gym and spar with the professionals. With this background, at the age of 79 he was able to win the 70 - 79 division at the Ringside World Championships in Kansas City in 2009.
There will be a private graveside service for family at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 24th at Mt. Pleasant Ceremony in Hawthorne, NY.
Shiva will be held Tuesday, June 24th 4:00pm – 9:00 pm at the home of Bonnie and Bill Todman, Jr., 7 Guion Lane, Bedford, NY.
