Obituary of Jason H. Rissner
In Loving Memory of Jason Hart Rissner
Jason Rissner, 81, of South Salem, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 11th. Born on November 29, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Sol and Lea Rissner, and was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Ella Star.
Jason was a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose warmth, humor, and generosity touched so many lives. We are heartbroken by our loss.
Jason grew up in Brooklyn and later moved to Manhattan before settling in Westchester County, where he lived for over 35 years in South Salem, New York. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a Bachelor’s degree in History and earned a Master's in Reading Education from Connecticut State University.
Early in his career, Jason worked in film and later opened a business, eventually finding much satisfaction as an educator until his retirement. Jason loved being near the ocean, spending vacations with his wife and two children in Montauk; these were among the most memorable times as a family. He often reminisced about his childhood in Brooklyn and shared stories from his time in Bensonhurst and playing football and baseball at Midwood High School.
Many of his happiest moments were spent in Greenwich Village with Carole after college — walking from the apartment where they lived in the West Village to concerts at the Fillmore East, and spending time with friends from those early days. Above all, Jason had an immeasurable gift of tenderness, lightness, and humor, allowing people to be exactly who they were. His spirit and way of being were palpable and will continue to live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jason is survived by his wife Carole, his daughters Chelsea Rissner (fiancée Christopher Aflague) of Brooklyn, and Courtney Katz (husband Evan Katz) of Ridgefield, Connecticut. He was a proud grandfather — affectionately called Poppy — to Parker and Maya, whom he adored. He is also survived by his brother, Danton Rissner of Los Angeles, California.
