Obituary of Denis F. Gallagher
Denis F. Gallagher, Jr.
October 4, 1953 - August 7, 2025
Denis F. Gallagher passed away peacefully after a long illness, in Hospice care at his home surrounded by his family.
Denis was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1953. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn and devoted son Michael. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Maureen Gallagher Yash (Mark); nieces Elizabeth Yash-Baker (Kyle) and Kimberly Yash; grandniece Lily Baker; and sister in law Patricia Kirkman (John). He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Kealy Gallagher and Denis F. Gallagher, Sr. and siblings, Michael Gallagher and Margaret (Peg) Gallagher.
He will be sorely missed by his lifelong friends, Kenneth Robinson (Wendy) and William McGorty (commonly known as "Motley Crew" by his wife and Ellen Buckley Vetrano). He was very proud of his God-daughter Amy McGorty Hunter and her family.
Denis was blessed to receive a wonderful education at St. Joseph's School and Kennedy Catholic in Somers, NY. He also received a BS in Accounting from Western Connecticut State University and a Master's Degree in Tax Law from Pace University. He was employed by Hitachi America and later completed his career with Aetna in Hartford. In winter, he would complete taxes at H&R Block. He worked until May 1 of this year. He loved the people he worked with, Becky, Phil and Joan to name a few. In the summer, he would transport cars for Balise Ford in Cape Cod and the Vineyard.
Denis had a life-long love of reading. One of his prized possessions was his 1959 Ford Galaxie convertible, still in its original, pristine condition. He was a member of the Housatonic Car Club until his illness prevented attendance at meetings. We as a family participated in the events. His passion for all things Beach Boys, Beatles and Duran Duran enriched his life.
He spent much of his life with his wife and "road dog" Marilyn, spending winters in Naples, FL, and summers on Cape Cod. We enjoyed the best of both worlds.
Denis loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 13, from 4:00-8:00 PM at Clark Associates Funeral Home, Katonah, NY.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Somers, NY on Thursday, August 14, at 10:00 AM with interment immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
