Obituary of Arthur L. Del Negro, Jr.
Arthur L. Del Negro, Jr. (Artie) passed away on Thursday, September 4th, 2025. Artie was born on January 9th, 1937 in the Bronx. He was the youngest child and only son of Arthur L. Del Negro and Laura (Fiorentino) Del Negro.
Artie graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, Fordham University, Fordham University Law School and NYU Law. His law career spanned over 7 decades and included work in the public sector as a Westchester County prosecutor. He also served as the Director of the National Economic Crime Project and ran his own private practice in White Plains for over 30 years.
A longtime resident of Pound Ridge, where he lived for 55 years, Artie was active in the community and served as the President of the Lions Club in the 1970’s. During his tenure as president, Artie was instrumental in the building of a new Ambulance Corps building. Artie took great pride in knowing that he had contributed to the project. More recently, he served as the town’s first prosecutor, a role he held until July of 2024.
In both his professional and personal lives, Artie prioritized extending a helping hand to others. He prided himself on providing more than legal support to his clients and extended himself to friends and family in both good times and more difficult ones. Over the years, Artie’s family heard countless stories from friends and strangers alike about how Artie had helped them at a crucial time in their lives. When cleaning out his home, his children found hundreds of personal notes that Artie had received over the years thanking him for the impact he had on someone’s life. Even as his health deteriorated over the past several months and he experienced more pain, his healthcare workers frequently commented on his warmth and kindness.
Nothing made Artie happier than spending time with his family and he loved to share stories of growing up with his large extended family in the Bronx. He enjoyed making people laugh, and his children and grandchildren lovingly groaned at his terrible jokes. He always said he was looking for the world’s worst joke and the consensus is that he found it in spades. His sense of humor was something he had until the end of his life.
Artie was the dedicated and loving father of Christine, Artie,III (Missy) and Matthew (Deirdre) and the proud grandfather of Carina, Grace, Chloe, Alessandra, Donovan and Bronwyn. In addition to his children and grandchildren, his wife, Ernesta, and many nieces and nephews survive him. He is predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Arlene Tobia and Elaine Lyons.
