Obituary of Daphne Brooke Bostwick

Daphne Brooke Bostwick, 33, of  Pound Ridge, New York passed away on September 16, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of Susan W. Bostwick and James F. C. Bostwick Jr., and a devoted sister to E. Frazier Bostwick and Lila G. Bostwick. She was the cherished granddaughter of Randall C. Wight and Edward I. Wight of Nantucket, Massachusetts, and Diana G. Bostwick of Brookville, New York. Daphne’s grandfather, James F. C. Bostwick, predeceased her.

She was educated at Katonah Elementary School, John Jay Middle School, Maplebrook School, and John Jay High School. She later attended the REACH Program at the College of Charleston, where she embraced independence, personal growth, and friendships that enriched her life in immeasurable ways.

A spirited supporter of John Jay Ice Hockey, Daphne also participated in Special Olympics tennis and had one heck of a forehand. She was proudly employed at the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester. She brought her signature enthusiasm, determination, and grace to everything she did. But perhaps nothing defined her more than her deep and abiding love for animals. Every creature that passed through her life became family. From hermit crabs and horseshoe crabs to chickens, kittens, bunnies, birds, dogs, and cats—she loved them all. She rescued many, but in truth, Daphne rescued hearts.

For Daphne, freedom was a hard-won joy—first in the unforgettable thrill of learning to ride a bike, then in going off to school, and later, in living independently. She never took these achievements for granted. Though life presented challenges, Daphne met them with quiet perseverance, grace, and a wisdom beyond her years. She insisted on leading her own life—and she did—with purpose, dignity, and authenticity.

She had an uncanny ability to read a room and connect with people on a rare, genuine level. She could size someone up in a moment—always with kindness and empathy—and offer a thoughtful word or quiet understanding. If you were lucky enough to be one of her favorites, you knew it. And it was an honor.

Daphne loved her family fiercely and felt deeply loved by them. Her rich humor and sense of the absurd entertained everyone. Her insight and gentle wisdom shaped her unforgettable spirit. Daphne grew up lovingly surrounded by a legion of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She brought joy, empathy, and laughter to her family and to the many people fortunate enough to be in her world.

In honoring Daphne’s life, we celebrate not only who she was, but how she made us feel: seen, loved, and understood. She taught us to withhold judgment, to care deeply for others—especially those who may be struggling—and to lead with compassion. That is her legacy: kindness, empathy, and love.

A memorial service in honor of Daphne will be held on October 18, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at: St. Matthew’s Church 382 Cantitoe Street Bedford, New York 10506.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Daphne’s name to the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester, (in memory of Daphne B. Bostwick), 351 Main Street, Mt Kisco, NY 10549
