Obituary of Anna Grgecic
Anica “Anna” Leskosek Grgecic passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 95. She is survived by her sons, Steven (Mary) Grgecic and Daniel Grgecic, and her cherished grandchildren Jessica, Tannen (Bridget), Luke, Katelyn, and Kyle. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Stjepan, and her dear daughter, Mary.
Anna was born in Slovenia, where she grew up skiing in the Alps. As a young woman, she bravely left communist Yugoslavia, finding sanctuary at a refugee camp in Italy. It is there that she met her future husband, Stjepan, a refugee from Croatia. They were married at the Vatican before immigrating to the United States with the assistance of Catholic Charities.
Anna and Stjepan began their life together in Manhattan and then Uniondale, Long Island, where they raised their three children. In 1981, the family moved to Bedford, New York, where Anna became a devoted parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was well known for her generosity, strength, and devotion to her family, as well as her incredible baking. Her Christmas potica, apple strudel, and Linzer tarts will be fondly remembered by all who had the joy of sharing them.
Anna’s life was a testament to resilience, faith, and love of family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Friends are invited to join Anna's family at the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Monday, October 6th at 10:00 am at St. Patrick's R.C. Church, 7 Pound Ridge Road, Village Green, Bedford Village, NY.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 399 North Street, Greenwich, CT 06830.
