Obituary of Rita Ann McGuire
Rita Ann McGuire (née McGrath), age 89, of Somers, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on October 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born November 9, 1935, in Manhattan, Rita was the beloved daughter of Helen McNamee and Owen McGrath. She attended Cathedral High School in Manhattan and remained a devoted, lifelong supporter of her alma mater. Rita earned her Bachelor of Arts from the College of Mount Saint Vincent and her Master of Science in Education from Queens College. She dedicated her professional life to teaching mathematics in New York City public schools and at Westchester Community College, where she was deeply committed to her students’ success, especially those who needed extra encouragement.
Throughout her life, Rita demonstrated unwavering resilience and courage. No matter the challenge of body or heart, mind or spirit, she rose to the occasion and overcame whatever the obstacle. Her love of family and friends, her enduring faith, and her sense of humor touched everyone who knew her.
Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband, William (Bill) McGuire, in 2010, after 53 years of marriage. Together, they cherished time with family and friends, found joy in watching the Yankees and Rangers, and enjoyed traveling to Florida to escape the winter months. This year, on Easter Sunday, Rita celebrated the arrival of her great-granddaughter, a moment that brought her immense happiness.
She is survived by her three loving daughters: Nancy Wong of Sanford, FL; Susan (Bart) Van de Weghe of Ridgefield, CT; and Noreen McGuire of White Plains, NY, along with her husband, Jim Manning. Also surviving are her brother, Hugh Turk, and his wife Sheila of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ; her cherished grandchildren, Melanie and Jennifer Wong of Sanford, FL; Katy (Robin) Lewis of Queens, NY; Janey (Prasanth) Romiyo of Rochester, NY; her great-granddaughter, Sloane Frances Romiyo; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 2, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, November 3, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 55 Valley Road, Katonah, NY. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Somers, NY.
