Obituary of Joanne Jantos
Joanne Jantos, of Somers, NY, died on November 16th, 2025 in Danbury, CT
Joanne was born December 2, 1943 in Dorchester, Massachusetts. She mostly grew up in Revere with her parents, David and Beatrice Dionne, and her older sister Jan. Joanne was independent, hard working, and determined. Her deepest desire was to have a family of her own, and a supportive community.
Joanne met James, her husband of 58 years, at Cheers, in Boston. Joanne supported her husband through graduate school, and married him in August of 1967. After a number of years trying, Joanne was blessed with four children, in quick succession, John, Jennifer, Jill, and Jackie. Her family took up residence in Somers, NY, where their lively home was filled with laughter, chatter, and play.
In addition to being the center of her family, Joanne worked part time as a tax accountant, and all who knew her knew her favorite season was tax season. Her husband’s career took the family to Japan, where she took up accounting for E&Y then Andersen, while guiding her family through what would become a life changing experience living in Tokyo, and extensively traveling the world. The family returned to their long standing community, and home, in Somers, in the early 90s.
Beyond family, Joanne was deeply committed to her community. She had many passions – tennis, bridge, reading, traveling, performing arts. She was committed to her community, and being of service. She volunteered with the AARP Tax Aide, the food bank, as a poll worker, the bluebird society, and more. She was a long time member of the Somers Women's Club, and served her parish, St. Joseph’s. She loved being active, and in community with others.
Joanne was full of life. Her presence and energy outsized her 5’2” frame. She was a lover of people, and conversation, and great debate. She lived life to its fullest and she lived it on her terms. She will be missed, dearly, by all who knew her, especially her husband and her four J’s, who honor her in their love for one another.
She is survived by her husband James, her children John, Jennifer, Jill, Jackie (Scott), her grandsons Logan, Noah, James, Julian, and many loving friends and family.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, November 20th from 4:00 - 8:00pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 21st at 10:00 am at St.Joseph's RC Church,95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY 10589
