Obituary of Michelina Martino

Michelina Martino, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and the cherished matriarch of her family died peacefully in her home on December 31, 2025, at the age of 99, surrounded by her family.

Born on November 10, 1926, in Monte San Giovanni Campano, Italy, to Giovanni and Assunta Mancini, she lived through the hardships of the Great Depression and witnessed the devastation of World War II, including the Battle of Monte Cassino. In 1951, she immigrated to the United States with her beloved husband, Dominick (who predeceased her). They often joked that they came to America with twenty-five cents in their pocket and lost it in a cigarette machine, a story that reflected both their humble beginnings and sense of humor.

Michelina settled in Somers, New York, where she lived in the same home for more than seventy-two years. There, along with Dominick, she found endless joy tending her large vegetable garden, beautiful flower beds, and meticulously maintained rose bushes. She lovingly canned tomatoes for her sauce, made grape jelly and wine from her arbor, and delighted in serving fresh vegetables to friends and family. A hardworking woman, she cleaned homes for over forty years, with many of her clients becoming lifelong friends.

Michelina loved people deeply and welcomed everyone into her home. She was known for her trademark invitation: “Come see me, I’ll feed you.” Friday nights were always homemade pizza night, with an open invitation to all who wished to join.

Her home was a place of warmth, generosity, and tradition.

Nothing brought her greater joy than being surrounded by her family: telling stories, giving advice, or simply enjoying their company.

She was the loving mother of Anne (Pascali), John (Karen), Luigi (Kay), and Rocco (Maria). She was a devoted grandmother to Jennifer (Paul), David (Caitlyn), Lucas, Jessica, Amy (Scott), Rachel (Andrew), John (Arieli), Stephen (Jessica), Dominick (Courtney), Paul (Christina), and Marisa (John), and she was blessed with twenty great-grandchildren. She was also fortunate to have a compassionate and devoted caregiver, Manana, whom she loved as a member of her own family.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
