Obituary of Jean Vitale
Jean Vitale, 92, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 16, 1933, in the Bronx, New York, she was the cherished daughter of the late Frank and Antoinette Cossa.
Raised in the Bronx, Jean attended Evander Childs High School and went on to dedicate many years as a dietitian at St. Frances of Rome School and P.S. 16. She cared for generations of children with the same warmth and attention she gave her own family.
Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donato, with whom she shared 32 wonderful years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her 12 brothers, and her 3 sisters.
She is survived by her devoted son, Christopher Vitale, and his wife, Maria, of Somers, New York; and by her three adored granddaughters, Deanna, Christina, and Julia. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory. She shared a special bond with her nieces, who lovingly styled her hair and ensured her signature blowout was always just right. They often brought their pets to visit, filling her home with even more life and laughter, and enjoyed taking her out to dinner — moments she always treasured.
Jean was everyone’s mother and grandmother. Her home was always open, and she had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome and loved. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, dining out, and watching old-time movies. Her eggplant parmigiana was legendary — a family favorite that brought everyone to the table for seconds.
Nothing brought Jean more joy than her grandchildren. She embraced their world wholeheartedly — snapchatting, making TikToks, sharing laughter, and even treating their friends to dinner. Her youthful spirit, sense of humor, and unconditional love created memories that will be cherished forever.
Jean’s life was defined by devotion to family, generosity of heart, and the joy of bringing people together. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Her love lives on in every family gathering, every shared meal, every laugh around the table, and even in the occasional McDonald’s run.
May she rest in eternal peace.
