Obituary of Tonino Macchiagodena

Tony Macchiagodena passed away peacefully in his home on May 2, 2026, surrounded by his family—just the way he wanted it to be. He was 96 years old. A resident of Heritage Hills in Somers, New York, for the past 22 years, Tony was formerly a longtime resident of New Rochelle, New York. He was born on June 4, 1929, to Domenico and Antoinetta Macchiagodena of Bonefro, Italy.

Tony began his career as a carpenter in Rome, Italy, before moving to New York at the age of 27, bringing his family with him and settling in New Rochelle. While his family were tailors by trade, Tony chose a different path and became a skilled carpenter. He dedicated over 30 years to Rimi Woodcraft Company in the Bronx, New York, where he worked as a master cabinet maker. His craftsmanship was marked by precision, pride, and an unwavering attention to detail, leaving behind work that reflected both his talent and dedication.

While living in New Rochelle, Tony would take the bus from Mount Vernon to his job in the Bronx. It was on that bus that he met his beloved wife, Alberta. The story goes that it took nearly a year for each of them to gather the courage to speak to one another. Once they did, it was clear they were meant to be. They were married in 1964 in City Island, New York, and went on to build a life together in New Rochelle, where they raised their two daughters, Anna and Maria.

Tony always kept his ties to Italy close. With his parents remaining there, he made it a priority to return often, bringing his family back many times through the years to visit, reconnect, and spend time at home in the place where it all began.

Tony will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his quiet strength, and his gentle, steady presence. He had a strong work ethic, a kind heart, and a way of making those around him feel cared for and supported. Whether through his actions or simply his presence, he brought comfort and stability to his family. He will be greatly missed, as he was a true pillar of our family and will always remain with us.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Alberta, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage; his daughters, Anna Bravo of Mahopac, NY and Maria Conforti (Ted Conforti) of Greenwich, Connecticut; his cherished grandchildren, Gabby, Julia, and Alex; and his sister, Rosina Ramacciato.

He was predeceased by his parents, Domenico and Antoinetta Macchiagodena; his sister, Anna Macchiagodena; and his nephew, Elino Ramacciato.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am on Friday, May 8, 2026 at St. Joseph RC Church , 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity in Tony’s memory.
