Obituary of Michael Borden Marshall

We bid farewell to Michael Borden Marshall, age 69 of North Salem, NY who passed away on May 4th 2026, in his home surrounded by family.

Michael was born on March 16, 1957 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Martin V. Marshall and Rosanne Marshall.

He was a graduate of Weston Highschool and a proud alumni of Oberlin College (BA) and Harvard University (MBA).

Michael was a researcher and strategist specializing in development and marketing for the life insurance industry. He began his career at John Hancock Financial in the marketing department. In 1994 he helped co-found The Financial Industry Research Team. A chair of numerous conference committees and studies in collaboration with The Life Insurance and Marketing Research Association (LIMRA), he also directed global research for the organization. For 23 years he worked at New York Life culminating as Corporate Vice President and Director of Research. Michael was a passionate leader driven by a mission to provide equitable and meaningful insights to the life and annuities field.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Michael was a parishioner of St. James Episcopal Church where he sung in the choir and served on the vestry board. A lover of music, he was a percussionist, keyboardist and record collector. While at HBS he was drummer and singer for Reverend Hurricane and the Soul Bazookas and later The Mommy and Daddy Band, a mainstay musical act for North Salem schoolchildren during the holiday season. Many of Michael’s creative endeavors merged when he designed, produced and directed “The Haunted Graveyard” display, a Halloween experience enjoyed by countless members of his community each autumn. Michael truly was an imaginative hobbyist of many trades.

A devoted husband and father, Michael was a constant presence in his family’s life. Since early childhood when he spent a year in Switzerland, he fostered a lifelong joy for travel. He was fortunate to have an array of opportunities to travel with his family, instilling an inquisitive and exploratory spirit in his children that they have carried into adulthood. Your legacy and love will endure in our hearts and minds forever more Michael.

He is survived by beloved wife Susan, children Samantha and Brenton Marshall all of North Salem, NY. Brother Neil Marshall of Waltham, MA and Martin Marshall and wife Debra of Sudbury, MA. Brother-in-law Robert Parks of Yorktown, NY.
