Obituary of Joyce Moscarello

Joyce E. Moscarello of Somers, New York passed away on May 22, 2026.

Mother to Paul (Sirl), Kurt (Kurt) (Daughter-in-law, AnnMarie), Bruce (Brew) and Robert (Dobbs), grandmother to Antonia and Paul, Jessie and Karly, Danielle and Aiden and great grandmother to Silvio and Massimo.

Joyce was born in the Bronx to Frank J. and Rose Cimino in 1931, during the depths of the Great Depression. Early life was tough, as one can imagine, but a loving extended family made it tolerable, including the addition of baby brother William and younger cousins Robert and Larraine. Despite the financial and social difficulties of growing up during this challenging era, Joyce developed traits such as tolerance, compassion, composure and level-headedness that defined her persona for the rest of her life.

After “the war” she met Tip, fresh out of fighting in the European Theater, and she became smitten (who wouldn’t be?). Things would never be the same of course. They married, lived in a 5 story walkup apartment, he a cartographer at Pan Am and she a secretary at the Bronx Zoo. Eight years after their son Paul was born they moved to Westchester and raised their four sons. Now, Tip was a man of extraordinary talent, energy and drive and, as always, he took everyone along for that hurricane of a ride. Life was fun. These were happy times. As his career path as an economist at Merrill Lynch steadily increased, Joyce was looked upon as his shining star, accompanying him at business functions in Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean and elsewhere. She absolutely loved this stage of her life. In addition, Joyce established herself with a successful career as a real estate agent at Ragette Real Estate in Bronxville, New York.

When it was time for retirement, they purchased a home at Woodridge Lake in semi-rural Goshen, Connecticut and the good times continued for another 22 years. Dad played tennis and motored his boat while mom swam laps in the pool. Every year she orchestrated Thanksgiving holidays just like you see in the movies. And best of all, regular visits by the now six grandchildren delighted them immeasurably.

For their final chapter, a move to Heritage Hills in Somers, New York was thoughtfully chosen. Closer to the kids, less home maintenance, more plentiful health care options. Sadly, Tip passed away in March of 2014 but Joyce courageously persevered until her final days, fiercely independent and determined to live on her own. Unfortunately, all things come to an end. And in that end, what is the “measure of a man?” In the case of Joyce, from the little girl of humble beginnings, to the sage great grandmother with the remarkable wisdom eagerly sought by almost everyone she met, one must conclude it was a life well spent. And it lasted 94 years. Beauty!

“JOY…”

We will miss you always.
