In Loving Memory of Ifay Dear Teresa and Family, We were deeply saddened to hear of Ifay’s passing, and we send our most heartfelt condolences to your entire family during this difficult time. Ifay was a true moral role model to all of us. His warmth, motivation, integrity, wisdom, and generosity of spirit will forever remain in our hearts as a constant source of inspiration. He made a profound and irreplaceable lifetime impact on both my personal life and my professional career. We remember Ifay as a vibrant and committed chess teacher at Northern Westchester Chinese School. Even to the point of his illness, he was volunteering his time and energy to the children every Saturday morning. My son would help set up the chess classroom during the 3rd hour and Ifay would treat my son with respect and tenderness. He would bring candy for the children and teach them chess moves. He would talk of his beautiful wife, Teresa, and his enjoyment of tennis. He was very proud of his grandchildren and showed me a picture when he accompanied his grandson to receive an award in the city. He enjoyed conversing and even when we disagreed on topics, he never let it interfere with the cordial friendly relationship we had when we met weekly at Chinese School. We are grieved over the loss of a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather but know Ifay is in a better place.

I first met Ifay in 1964 when we became electrical engineering graduate students at the University of Rhode Island, later working under the same PhD advisor, Shashanka Mitra. Having taken many courses with Ifay it was obvious to me that he was brilliant. We were both chosen to participate in an advanced summer program in the area of solid state electronics in Freiburg, Germany. After completing the degree, Ifay chose industry (The prestigious IBM Watson Research Lab) and I followed the academic route. Although we were separated in our career paths, we maintained contact, periodically talking or meeting in person. Most recently we spent several days together in Rhode Island reminiscing and we had the opportunity to meet Teresa, truly a multi-talented person with many different interests. Both Leah and I were certainly saddened to hear of Ifay' passing. We will miss him.

It's hard to believe such a dynamic man is gone. I first met Ifay when he approached me about Scrammble tournaments. I was running Scrabble tournaments, and our students shared many skills. I brought my daughter and her Scrabble partner, Matt Silver, to compete on the televised Scrammble show. Two of Ifay's sons competed on Scrabble teams at the National School Scrabble Championships. Ifay also brought me in to teach at Somers, where I met DeeAnn Guo, who became a top School Scrabble player. It was such a delight getting to know Ifay, Teresa, and their sons--such incredibly bright, compassionate, and enthusiastic young men--all with Ifay's great sense of humor. What a loss.

My earliest memory of "Uncle" Ifay was at dinner parties in the 1970s. I was very young (7? 8?), and since my parents didn't believe in babysitters, I'd come and sit quietly ignored in a corner in while the adults conversed. Uncle Ifay was kind and observant; he was the only one who would pay attention to me; he would play games or just talk with me. So kind to a youngster - now I realize, while still a young man himself! Jeffay and Julie - sending you deep condolences for your father's passing.

I got to know Ifay in 2013 when we both started working for the weekly publication, the US-China Forum. Ifay was the most frequent contributor of English articles while I was the editor of the English section of the publication. Throughout the years I witnessed Ifay's in-depth understanding of world and domestic events and his ability to write the analysis of them in a very short time. I was also impressd with his broad-mindedness in accepting suggestions. We gradually built solid friendship. His passing is a tremendous loss to the US-China Forum and myself. I will always remember him. May he rest in peace.

My heartfelt condolences to Ifay's family. I feel privileged to have met Ifay years ago. I believe God puts people in our path for a reason. One of the last things he said to me was "You need to reach out.". I know Ifay will be watching me, reminding me what he said. Ifay was always reaching out. That is how I will remember him. We danced together once, at a New Years Eve celebration. I will remember that too. I am blessed to have held his hand to say farewell my friend, go Home to God.
