George was a dear old friend of over 60 years. I initially met him at Manhattan College where we both majored in history and, at the end of the day, frequently traveled home together on the subway to Washington Heights where we both grew up. He was a year older and a year ahead of me in Manhattan and frequently kidded me about his superior maturity and seasoned wisdom. To be sure, his real gift was his quick wit, which my wife Ellen and I frequently and fondly recall. In fact, our fondest recall occurred when Ellen and I were dancing at a fraternity party when George noticed that I was holding her too closely and whispered slyly to me that "I leave room for the Holy Ghost"!
Those were the days, fondly recalled, when we were more innocent then we like to admit but also when friends like George were friends for life. We spoke seldomly in recent years but George always will have a real place in my heart and will be always fondly remembered. I will miss him very much.
