Obituary of Dennis Joseph Moynihan
Dennis J. Moynihan, 78, of Somers, NY formerly of Valley Cottage, NY died Saturday, March 21, 2020 at home.
Dennis was born on January 2, 1942 in Manhattan, New York to the late Ann and Christopher Moynihan. Dennis was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard of New York. Dennis was a retired New York City Fire Department Battalion Chief in the Bronx, NY and proudly served the Fire Department for 38 years. Of his many accomplishments, successful entrepreneur and published writer, he was most proud of the rescue and recovery efforts he led during and after the terror acts of 9/11. He succumbed to cancer attributed to his work at Ground Zero and passed away a hero with his family by his side. Dennis was an avid golfer, bowler and loved to play team sports including softball and basketball. He enjoyed travelling, specifically to Hilton Head Island, SC with his family and friends, who he treated magnificently.
Dennis is the beloved husband of Patricia and is the loving father and father-in-law of Michael and Linda Moynihan of East Greenbush, NY and daughter Denise Ferrara, who predeceased him. He is a devoted grandfather of Michael Ferrara and Caroline Ferrara and brother of Noreen Bernardino of Yonkers, NY. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and close friends who all loved him very much.
Chief Moynihan will have a private Mass and be buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY with his beloved daughter.
