Obituary of John Andrew McSpedon
John A. McSpedon, 38, of Mount Kisco, NY, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 12, 2020. He left this world too soon, and will be missed dearly.
The son of William and Diane (Dagnall) McSpedon of Ridgefield, CT, John was born in Stamford, CT on March 20, 1982, the youngest of 7. As a child he entertained his family with his big smile and infectious laugh, which continued throughout his life. He attended schools in Westchester County, NY, and proudly became an Electrician from the Local 3 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, where he worked for many years. He married the love of his life, Emie Meagher McSpedon on June 5, 2007, and was inseparable from her since. Soon after, they had a daughter, Madelynn Dagnall McSpedon on July 11, 2007, whom he was proud of and loved more than the whole wide world.
John will be remembered for his love of history, music, and fishing, but especially for his love for Madelynn and Emie. The family will miss him repeating long stories, sneaking snacks and feeding Mocha (the ‘pupperoni’) behind their backs, but especially his ability to help everyone be happy and laugh. He was quick to lend a helping hand, share a smile, and always had a great joke of two to help lighten the load.
William Butler Yeats wrote, “There are no strangers here. Only friends you haven’t met yet.” Truer words could never have been spoken about John, as you left conversations with him feeling important and welcomed. His hugs, warm laugh and his whole being enveloped you.
John is predeceased by his beloved brother, Bill McSpedon and his ‘cousilino’ (cousin), Tommy Milo. In addition to his parents, John is survived by his loving wife, Emie (nee Meagher) and daughter, Madelynn Dagnall, and his adored ‘pupperoni’ Mocha. In addition, he leaves behind another daughter, Kayla Marie, an older brother, Dane (Geraldine) McSpedon of Pound Ridge, and four sisters, Kimberley McSpedon of New Rochelle, Jennifer (Daniel) Foley of Ridgefield, CT, Laura (Michael) Scanlon of Milford, CT and Mary (Jared) Cordtz of Jamestown, RI, as well as 14 beloved nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles and many cousins. Also, all of his dear friends to whom he has touched deeply, and deeply touched him.
A private service for the immediate family of John will be held on Tuesday, May 19th at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah, New York starting at 9:30am. Following the service, John will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. Extended family and friends are welcome to join the funeral procession from the funeral home at 10:30am to the cemetery for the committal service. Due to current restrictions, a memorial mass and celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Mental Health Association of Westchester County, NY in memory of John McSpedon.
