Obituary of Joseph J. Salek, Jr.

Joseph J. Salek, Jr., longtime resident of Somers, passed away on August 23, 2021 at the age of  98.

Born in Brooklyn, NY and a graduate of Brooklyn Tech High School,

Joseph served in World War II, married Kathleen Fleming in 1948 and moved to Hicksville, NY where they raised 2 children.

Joseph worked for various defense contractors as a Quality Assurance Engineer.

 He retired from the New York Power Authority in 1988, where he audited nuclear power plants.

In 1986, Joseph and Kathleen moved to Heritage Hills in Somers.  He served as treasurer of Condo 16, played golf, enjoyed bowling and most of all loved spending time with his family.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 73 years, Kathleen, his son, Robert (Ruth) and his devoted daughter, Maureen (Donald) Ball.

Cherished grandfather of 4 grandchildren, Sarah, Lorraine (TJ) , Brian (Karlsson) and Walter (Layla) and 5 great granddaughters.

Joseph’s family will receive friends on Friday, August 27 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 28 at 10:00am at St. Joseph's RC Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY. 

Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Route 202, Somers, NY.

Joseph’s family welcomes ONLY those that are vaccinated and requests masks to be worn by all attending the wake and funeral.
