Mario G. Fusco, Sr., age 87, of Somers NY (formerly of Commack, NY) passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 30th, 2018. He was born on May 4th, 1930 in Vettica di Praiano, Italy to Louis and Carmela Fusco. He is predeceased by his parents and his siblings Louise, Alfonso and Emmanuel. Mario is survived by his beloved wife of over 61 years, Viola (Gagliano). He is also survived by his loving children, Rosemarie Abecasis (Robert), Louis Fusco (AnnMarie), Mario Fusco Jr., Carla Jones (Brent), AnnMarie Fuchs (Scott), and Camille Quattrocchi (Vincent). Mario had great pride for his 17 beautiful grandchildren Marc Fusco (Rachel), Lisa Chipman (PJ), Jillian Easterlin (Will), Paul Fusco (Nicole), Gregory Fusco (Ipek), Emily Abecasis, Eric Jones, Christian Jones, Sarah Abecasis, Nicolina Fusco, Mario Fusco III, Julia Fuchs, Kenneth Fusco, Sean Fuchs, Steven Quattrocchi, David Quattrocchi and Luke Fuchs. He and Viola have also been blessed with 6 precious great-grandchildren Ryan, Juliana, Kira, Leonardo, William and Ayla. He studied at Pace University and served 6 years Active Duty with the United States Army, serving in the Korean War and Special Services to the Vietnam War. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and very committed to the service of helping veterans and all those in need. Mario was also a very active member of his church community serving as Eucharistic Minister, Usher and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member. He also worked as a salesman for nearly 40 years. Mario was a generous, loving and charismatic man who loved life and touched the lives of so many that he has met. Family was always most important to him. His love for his wife, Viola was so strong and his pride in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was tremendous. He has many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of Uncle Mario – he was always everyone’s favorite. Mario was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and loved watching games with his family. His love for baseball ran deep and some of his grandsons keep his legacy alive through baseball. He was also a wonderful cook and loved cooking Sunday family dinners, at 1pm of course, and Christmas Eve will never be the same without dad in front of the stove preparing his fish feast. Mario will be eternally missed and certainly never forgotten. He left an imprint in the hearts of all he met and many memories, laughs and stories to keep us smiling
His family will receive friends on Friday, February 2nd from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3rd at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s RC Church,95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY 10589. Interment will follow at Gate Of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY 10532.
