Dr Hugh was a wonderful man.
I had the pleasure to work with Dr Hugh and Tom for 10 years as their Dental Hygienist and felt honored to enjoy the daily banter, laughs and smiles we all shared in the office. Dr Hugh would step over the threshold between the house and office and exclaim “Phew! The commute was a killer this morning!” With a gleam in his eye to start the day
We enjoyed celebrating holidays, birthdays and wonderful times that I cherish. You are a special family and I send to your family my sincere condolences

I can’t tell you how saddened I was to hear the news of your dad’s passing. In addition to being our family dentist, our parents had many of the same friends and enjoyed lots of social get togethers at each other’s homes back in the day.
My fondest memory of your dad was the two years I worked for him while I was in high school. He taught me many things about making appointments, running an office and even dentistry but mostly he taught me kindness and the importance of seeing humor in life. What joy it was for me to have that job…..we laughed so much….and I still, to this day, remember and repeat many of his one-liners! I remember during lunchtime sitting with your mom and having easy conversations. He will always hold a special place in my heart….
All these memories of your dad are such a beautiful testimony to him and such a source of comfort……
Sending you all hugs, much love and prayers

Hugh and his family were great long term neighbors and friends of ours on Nantucket. He was always kind, generous, and thoughtful and quick with the jokes. He was also very helpful in making Surfside a better place….we miss him ……

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the McGown Family on the passing of you Dad, Poppy. I followed my sister, Dolores O'Connor Galardo, working for your Dad after school through my junior and senior high school years. A wonderful person to work for in a happy workplace. He and your Mother were full of love and laughter; they both had such wonderful wits. I remember them with great fondness.
Sincerely
~Helen O'Connor Coughter

I am truly sorry to hear of Hugh's passing. He and Alice were wonderful people. I worked part time for him during my last two years of high school and through the summers - a great first job! Additionally, I babysat for his young growing family. Even after I left for nursing school we would visit during times I was home on vacation. They were a pleasure to know and I remember them fondly.
Please accept my sincere condolences.

Dr. McGowan was an inspiration to many of us in Katonah. He was the consummate gentleman and a joy to spend time with. We were blessed to know him and glad to have his children as friends.
May the angels lead him to paradise and May God comfort the McGowan family.

Had to be 20 -25 years ago, we were visiting our family on Nantucket, when Mom gathered us to go visit with her new best friends, Alice and Hugh, just down the street. We arrived to the blessing of a home filled with love and laughter. Generations of McGowans were everywhere and I’ll never forget the wonderful game of badminton in their backyard, with Alice likely the best and most graceful player in the bunch, and Hugh making sure that everyone, aged 7 to 70 plus, got a turn to make a nice shot! Decades of love and intergenerational friendship and mentorship followed. What a blessing to have known Hugh. He lives on in our memories and in our dinner grace, where we added, as Hugh did, “and Lord, make us instruments of thy peace.
Amen.❤️

What a vibrant, funny, and sharp man! He will be sorely missed. I recall first meeting Hugh (or as I knew him, Kerry’s grandpa) when he was grilling up hot dogs for the masses in Nantucket many years ago, surrounded by the joy and laughter of his family. I’ve heard so many stories of his wit and charm, and it was always a joy to cross his path. Sending love, prayers, and fond memories. - Christine Hnath

I was on a date in Katona New York about three years ago and I was early and I went into the hardware store to kill some time.
Out of the blue, I asked The owner of the store if he knew Hugh McGowan. His response was “ everyone knows Hugh “ RIP Uncle Hugh - Michael Ward
