Obituary of James Cullen

  Seamus (James) Cullen (87), born to Ellen and James Cullen on August 6, 1937, in Mullahoran, Co. Cavan, Ireland passed away on September 1st 2024 surrounded by his family. He had four siblings: Pat Joe, Maureen, Benny and Dymphna, all of whom have preceded him in death.  Seamus was the youngest child and the only one that immigrated to the United States, arriving in NYC in 1958.  He stayed with his Aunt Margaret and her family in the Bronx.  Seamus began his 38-year career at Queens Surface / MTA Bus in 1963.   Seamus met his beloved wife, Kathleen Stephens, and they were married in 1968.  They soon moved to College Point, Queens where they raised their three children.   

Seamus was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. He was a parishioner of St. Fidelis Church in Queens and more recently a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church.  Seamus was a past president of the Emerald Society, a member of the Knights of Columbus, College Point Soccer Club and TWU Local 100 Retirees’ Association.  Seamus was an avid golfer and fisherman.  He loved watching all type of sports especially American football and soccer.   In retirement, he very much enjoyed his time in The Villages, FL, where he was active in the community but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Seamus is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen of 55 years, his children James Cullen and his wife Jennine; Maureen Caraher and her husband Philip; Kathy Court and her husband Christopher, his eight cherished grandchildren Ryan, Annie, Katie, Sarah, Ellen, Christina, James and Micheal, numerous sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00PM  at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY 10536.  The Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10:00am at St. Joseph RC Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery, 20 Turk Hill Road, Brewster,NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Alzheimer’s Association.
