Obituary of Calogero Mangiameli

Calogero Mangiameli, 91, of North Salem, NY formerly of Yonkers, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19th, 2024, surrounded by his family at Waterview Hills.

Calogero was born on January 29, 1933, in Sicily, to the late Francesco Paolo and Concetta Mangiameli, née Crapisi. As a young man, he pursued his passion for fashion design in Torino, Italy  and later returned to his hometown of Corleone where found true love and married in May 1958. The family grew with the arrival of their son Paul, in 1959. Together with his wife, Grazia, they started their custom tailoring business and later embarked on a journey to pursue the American dream and moved to the United States in 1963. Soon after, they welcomed their daughter AnneMarie, in 1964.

Calogero’s talent as a designer and patter maker in the garment district of Manhattan was truly remarkable. He became highly sought after by renouned fashion houses in NYC such as Teal Traina, Tahari, Donna Karen, Ralph Lauren, Nanette Lepore and others.

He treasured simple pleasures like spending time with his grandchildren, listening to Italian operas, watching movies like “The Godfather”, tending his garden, or enjoying a bowl of pasta with meatballs. But above all, his greatest love was his family. His kindness, generosity and sense of humor touched the lives of those around him, and his presence will be deeply missed, especially by his family.

Calogero is the beloved husband of the late Grazia, née Foto and is the loving father of Paul (Cindy) of Southbury, CT and AnneMarie (Richard) of North Salem, NY.  He is the devoted grandfather of Richard, Alexa, Julia and Kathryn and a great granddaughter, Isla. Calogero is the dear brother of Giuseppina and Gaspare, Rome, Italy and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
