Obituary of Phyllis F. Levenson

Phyllis Levenson of Somers. New York, a beloved matriarch, passed away unexpectedly on October 20, 2024, at the age of 101. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Robert Levenson, and was the daughter of the late Hilda and Benjamin Friedman. Known for her vibrant spirit, fierce independence, and love of family, she leaves behind a legacy of joy, resilience, and unwavering love.

Born in New York City, Phyllis grew up in Mount Vernon, New York, was a graduate of Skidmore College, and was a woman of many talents. An accomplished and passionate musician, she filled her home with piano music from classical to contemporary, which she shared with her family and friends and was the long-time accompanist for the Male Glee Club of Yonkers. A devoted homemaker, she created a warm and inviting atmosphere for her loved ones. Her culinary skills were legendary, and her baked goods were always a highlight of any gathering.

Beyond her artistic and domestic pursuits, Phyllis was a dedicated bridge player, a skilled driver of her stick-shift car, and an active volunteer in her community. Her independence and zest for life were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Richard (Marie) and Stephen (Blaine); her grandchildren, Danielle, Frederic, Brooke (Michael), and Brent (Deena); her great-grandchildren, Eli, Cece, Emet, and Mollie; and her many cherished friends. Her family thanks her caregivers Solange Asadov and Sonia Dwyer.
