Obituary of Joseph Massenet Jean
Joseph Massenet Jean, 89, of Somers, NY, died peacefully in his home surrounded by loving family Thursday November 14, 2024. He died from complications of multiple myeloma. Born on February 17th, 1935 in Maissade, Haiti to the late Florvius Jean and Marie Josianie Joseph. “Massenet” immigrated to the United States in the early 1970’s, where he continued to court and eventually marry his true love, the late Dr. Mona Letellier Jean, a pediatrician with her own private practice in Yonkers, NY. She transitioned in 2017 after a 3 year long battle with metastatic breast cancer.
A devout catholic, he and his family were parishioners for over 40 years at St Patrick’s Church in Yorktown. You could never miss him as he (and his children) was always dressed to the nines with his signature black fedora hat with the feather on the side. He made sure the whole family were always dressed up for Sunday Mass to set an example. An avid learner, he obtained a masters degree in mathematics. He then taught mathematics for several years both in Haiti and abroad. After leaving education, Joseph became a manager at Citibank, N.A. and then moved on to be an accountant for many years with the New York City Transit Authority.
He was a loving father to daughters Pierre Gina and Marie Raphaelle, and sons Carl Massenet and Mark Anthony. He is survived by brothers Newton, Pollux, Boaz, and Esron; sister Marie Blandine Jean; as well as his grandchildren Brooke Olivia Jean and Brandon Carter Massenet Jean.
Organizations that were close to his heart included the Rosicrucian order (AMORC) and Equality Lodge (Masonic) #3 in Brooklyn, NY. He will be missed dearly, however we are comforted knowing he is no longer in pain, reunited with his wife.
His family will receive friends on November 22nd from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on November 23rd at 11:00 am at St.Patrick's RC Church, Yorktown, 137 Moseman Road, Yorktown Heights 10598. Interment will follow at Amawalk Hill Cemetery, Quaker Church Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10501.
