Obituary of Reidar Gundersen
Gundersen, Reidar, 89, of Somers, NY and formerly of Armonk, NY died peacefully at his residence and entered into the presence of the Lord on December 14, 2024.
Reidar was born on March 28, 1935, in Loddesol, Norway to the late Hans and Ingeborg Gundersen. He immigrated to the United States in 1957 to seek the American Dream, and he did. He followed his brothers and learned how to build homes. Reidar started his business with one of his brothers known as Gundersen Bros. Custom Homes, Inc. for 45 years with a countywide reputation. He was proud to be an American citizen.
Outside of work, Reidar loved the sport of ski-jumping and skied competitively for Bear Mountain Ski Club when he was in his early years. He loved tending to his gardens, caring for wildlife, fishing and later in life, golfing. However, his greatest love and passion was when he married Lilly. Together they had 5 children, and he was happiest when surrounded by family.
Reidar was the devoted and beloved husband of Lilly (Reinertsen) for 64 years and the loving father of Lynn (David) Diduch of Charlottesville, VA; Glenn (Yolanda) of Chappaqua, NY; Dan of Mt. Kisco, NY; Ellen (Fredric) Didier, South Elgin, IL; and Karin (Robert) Milner of The Woodlands, TX; He was the proud “Bestefar” to 12 grandchildren who loved him dearly, and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Tormod (Bjorg) Gundersen in Norway and sister Solveig (Olav) Ranneklev in N.C. along with many nieces and nephews.
He was a faithful follower of Christ since his teenage years and set a godly example that impacted many. He was a founding member of Hillside Church in Armonk, an elder for many years, taught Sunday School, and he was a strong supporter of global missions.
A “Celebration of Reidar’s Life” will take place at Armonk Alliance (formerly Hillside Church), 448 Bedford Rd, Armonk, NY 10504, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Calvary Bible Church, PO Box 11, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598-0011, his church for the last 10 years. ATTN: Mission Fund.
