Obituary of Orlando Ferentini

Orlando "Lonnie" Ferentini of South Salem, NY, passed away at his home on December 17, 2024, at the age of 89.

Lonnie was born on December 21, 1934, in Anagni, Italy, to the late Giuseppe and Marina (née Frattali) Ferentini. He grew up on his family farm until at the age of 17, Lonnie left Italy in pursuit of the American dream.

His journey first took him to Venezuela, where he worked for two years in a variety of jobs. After saving enough money, Lonnie officially immigrated to the United States in September of 1954. His first job was at a butcher shop in the Bronx, NY, where he met the love of his life, Maria Santa “Sandy” DiCarlo. In 1955, Lonnie and Sandy were married and spent the next 56 years together until her passing in 2011.

Lonnie purchased land in South Salem in 1970 and built his dream home there. Lonnie became known for his remarkable vegetable garden, which he generously shared with his friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed bow hunting and developed a few culinary talents, particularly his homemade sausage, spiedini, pasta, and delicious hamburgers.

Lonnie took immense pride in his family and delighted in sharing stories about his life and many adventures during Sunday dinners at his home. A beloved member of the Lewisboro community, he took his unofficial role as “Mayor” of Lower Salem Road seriously and drove around the road often to check in on his neighbors. A fixture at his grandchildren’s sporting events, Lonnie was an enthusiastic supporter of their achievements.

Lonnie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sandy, and his eldest son, Joseph. He is survived by his daughter Catherine Ferentini, his son Thomas Ferentini and daughter-in-law Jennifer, and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn.

The family will receive visitors on December 23, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Wood Bridge Rd., Katonah, NY.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s RC Church, 55 Valley Rd., Katonah, NY on Monday, December 23 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery 280 Secor Rd., Hartsdale, NY 10530.
