Obituary of Doris Jean Beairsto O’Keefe
Doris Jean Beairsto O’Keefe of Doylestown, PA, formerly of Somers and Yonkers, NY passed away on Friday June 16, 2017. She was born in Yonkers NY on February 28, 1925, the daughter of Harold and Grace (Little) Beairsto and sister of Constance Beairsto Morris.
Doris attended Blessed Sacrament High School and Graduated from Columbia University’s Dental Hygiene program. Doris worked as a dental Hygienist in Yonkers and New Canaan, Ct for 17 years. Doris married James J. O’Keefe Jr of Yonkers NY, son of James and Nell O’Keefe, on September 29, 1956. Doris and Jim raised five children: Kathleen, James III, Donald and Jack O’Keefe and Doreen McNamara, in Yonkers with all the love and devotion one could ask for. After raising her children, Doris received her real estate license and practiced with Jim at O’Keefe Realty in Yonkers. After their retirement they moved to Somers, NY in 1989.
An avid gardener, Doris was a member of the Morsemere Garden Club in Yonkers, and participated in numerous flower shows. Doris won a first place ribbon in her last flower show at the age of 89. After moving to Somers, she took up painting, with water color being her preferred medium. She loved to share her works as cards for family and friends. A perpetual volunteer, Doris devoted time to Twigs thrift shop in Mt. Kisco, NY for the benefit of the Northern Westchester Medical Center. She also was a member of the Alter Society of St. Joseph’s Church in Somers.
Doris loved her daughter-in-laws Sandi, Jaime and Melissa as if they were her own. Her 8 grandchildren; Ryan and Quin McNamara, James, Meghan, Sean, Griffin, Samantha, and Harry O’Keefe all have happy memories of Sunday dinners, whiffle ball games, and special events at “Nana and Jimbo’s”.
Friends may call at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woodsbridge Rd, Katonah, NY 10536 on Thursday June 22, 2017 from 7pm -9pm.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Joseph’s RC Church, 95 Plum Brook Rd, Somers, NY 10589 on Friday June 23, 2017 at 10am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
