Obituary of Grace A. Butterweck

Butterweck, Grace A., 88, of Somers, NY, and Wellfleet, MA, died on December 25, 2016 in Marlton, NJ. Grace was born October 30, 1928 in White Plains, NY to the late Howard and Florence Butterweck, and raised in Scarsdale, NY. Grace was preceded in death by her siblings Paul, Ethyl, and William, and by her dear friend Mary Gilhooly. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Joyce) Butterweck, 8 nieces, 2 nephews, as well as grand nieces and nephews. Grace graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University ’50, and received an M.S. in Education from Smith College. She taught physical education at several schools, including Manhattanville College, where she was an assistant professor; was a guidance counselor at Irvington High School; and finally served as Athletic Director at Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. Grace was an accomplished athlete. She played in national field hockey tournaments, and was inducted into the Ohio Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame for her participation on the basketball and field hockey teams. She officiated field hockey games in Westchester County for decades. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 10:30 am to 12:30pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, Katonah, NY. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be sent to Blythedale Children’s Hospital
