Obituary of Ruth C. Cannon

Ruth Conner Cannon, 87, of Heritage Hills in Somers, NY died on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the NY State Veterans’ Home in Montrose, NY.

Born in 1930 in the Bronx, NY, Ruth grew up and remained for many years in the Inwood section of Manhattan where she was a parishioner of the Church of the Good Shepherd.  Ruth was the daughter of Albert R. Conner and Gertrude Gibney Conner (of the Conner Funeral Home) and the sister of Gertrude Conner Kebba (William) and Albert C. (Marion).  She was a proud graduate of Ladycliff Academy in Highland Falls, NY.

In 1950 Ruth married James P. Cannon of Inwood.  In late 1961 they relocated to the hamlet of Purdys, NY to raise their growing family. They resided there together until James’s untimely passing in 1987.  The neighboring town of Somers became her home in 1994.  Ruth is the loving mother of the late James C. (Julie), Dennis B. (Denice), Daniel A. (Evelyn), Catherine A., Mary E. Moore (Kevin) and Bernadette R. McDonald (Robert).  She is the grandmother of Matthew (Christina), Elizabeth and Caroline Cannon, Anne-Marie Johnson (Robert) and Laura Schook (Andrew), Andrew Cannon, Christine and Michelle Moore, Brendan, Claire and Colleen McDonald.  Ruth is great-grandmother to Alexandra Johnson and Charles Cannon.  She also found much joy in her many nieces and nephews.

“Ruthie” was a particular favorite of the devoted staff of the Veterans’ Home in Montrose where she was a resident for the last two years.
