Obituary of Charles F. Sullivan
Charles F. Sullivan of Somers NY, formerly of Dix Hills NY, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday May 29, 2018.
Charles was born on August 17, 1928 in Brooklyn NY to the late Robert and Mae Sullivan. Charles graduated from Midwood High School and went on to graduate from Saint Leonard's business school.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Planning and Operations during the Korean War. He received the Army Commendation Medal for having distinguished himself through heroism and meritorious achievement.
Charles was the Chief Administrator for the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. He was awarded the Bernard Botein Medal for outstanding contributions to the NYS court system.
Upon retiring, Charles volunteered at the Veterans Administration. During retirement he was also the bookkeeper and administrator at his sons' law firm and a member of VFW Post 8213 in Somers, NY.
Charles is the beloved husband of Dorothy (Weireter) and the loving father (father-in-law) of Maura (Gary) of North Babylon NY, Philip (Ann) of Barnes London, Eileen (Jerry) of North Kingstown RI, Carolanne of West Islip NY, John (Doreen) of Cortlandt Manor NY and Kevin (Marie) of Somers NY. Charles is the devoted grandfather of Jennifer (Chuck), Jonathan (Lori), Bridgette (Erik), Matthew, Erik, Jason, Sarah, Leah, Mae, Sean, J.C., Ryan, Julianna and Christopher. Charles is a loving great grandfather to eight great grandchildren. Charles was one of six children. He is predeceased by siblings Robert, William, Virginia, Edward, and is survived by Ann. Charles is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Charles has touched many lives with his kindness and generosity. He dearly loved his family and his Catholic faith. He enjoyed music, traveling the world and he was an avid reader. Charles was an active member of his church throughout his life, and often volunteered in his community.
Friends and family may call at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah NY on Thursday, May 31 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s RC Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers NY on Friday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Blvd, Calverton NY.
