Obituary of James J. Terleph
James (“Jim”) Terleph, 85, died peacefully at home on October 17, 2018 after a year-long battle with motor neuron disease. He will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend Anna (née Symons), his two sons John and Thomas, their wives Toni and Kristi, and by grandchildren Oliana, Claresta, Sophia, Larissa and Edward. Jim was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Harry Popper, the parents of his nephews John, James and Robert, and niece Mary Jane.
Jim was born on March 15, 1933 in Queens, NY to parents Joseph and Loretta Terleph. He received a BA in Psychology from Columbia University, followed by graduate training in Clinical Psychology from Fordham University, The New School for Social Research, and the Washington Square Institute. He was a psychologist for many years at Mamaroneck High School and in private practice, and retired in 2000. This year Jim moved from Lake Katonah where he lived for 48 years.
Throughout his life, Jim was an ambitious traveler and prolific writer. He documented both his adventures and his life in numerous journals that serve as an impressive family history for future generations.
A Memorial Service for family and friends will be on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00am at The Bedford Presbyterian Church, Village Green, Bedford, NY.
