Obituary of Anna Tucker
Anna Swatovy Tucker was born July 19, 1922 in Yonkers NY....4th child of Frank and Amelia Swatovy....There were four girls and one boy in the family ...
She loved her brother dearly, even though he convinced her parents that she should not join the Navy as she wished. She loved her sisters and all her nieces and nephews...and spent many weeks of the summer visiting them in Moriah NY.
Anna married Charles Tucker in June 1945 at St. Denis Church in Yonkers. Charles was a roofer, a kind easy going man who enjoyed going fishing with Anna's father.
Her two children, Jane and John, came much later in the marriage.
Anna had her first child at age 35 and her second at age 40, something not looked kindly upon in those days.
Anna was proud of and enjoyed her various secretarial jobs, especially her last position in the Philosophy Department of Fordham University in the Bronx. Not only was she keeping with the family tradition of working at Fordham, her brother Frank was a chef there for many years, she also was able to keep a close eye on her daughter for all four years of college.
Anna survived colon cancer in the 1980's,. She outlived the doctors predictions for her, they gave her 5 years to live, she lived almost 30 years after surgery. We firmly believe it was her strong Polish/German constitution.
Some of Anna's favorite activities included senior bus trips such as to the Amish country and Westchester Broadway Theater...and especially the fall foliage tours.
In later years, her son John took her on many private leaf peeping rides through the Adirondacks.
Anna is survived by her son, John and his wife, Beverly (daugter Melanie and 3 grandsons)...her daughter Jane and grandchildren Valerie and James, and many nieces and nephews
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00AM at St. Mary's Church in Katonah followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
