Obituary of Jackson Bailey Hall

Jackson B. Hall, age 89, of Somers, died Tuesday, February 5, 2019. He was born in Sutton, West Virginia, the son of Bailey and Ruth Hall. Jackson graduated from Sutton High School and went on to enlist in the U.S Army in 1950. He served overseas in Fulda, Germany, where he met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Gertrud. Following his discharge from the U.S. Army in 1954, he and Gertrud eventually settled in Somers, where they have lived for over 55 years.

Jackson was the son of a Carpenter and became a Carpenter, Construction Foreman and Project Manager on many projects throughout NYC, Southern and Northern Westchester, including the Somers IBM buildings. He was a member of Local Union 1134 in Mount Kisco for 65 years. He was the Secretary and Treasurer for the Union for many of those years, and retired as the Business Agent.

He had great love for his family and was instrumental in building homes and doing renovations for his children. His “Honey Do List” was always full, including building furniture, kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Jackson and his neighbor, Hans, were avid walkers and could be seen most days circling their neighborhood. He said that they had walked thousands of miles over 40 years of walking together. His favorite hobby and achievement was flying small planes in Stormville, NY. He earned his pilot’s license and enjoyed hanging out with the other pilots at the Stormville Airport after making “Takeoffs and Landings.”

Jackson is survived by his wife, Gertrud; his three children, Helene, Michael and Elizabeth, and his three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Howard and three sisters; Vivian, Beulah and Doris.

The family will receive friends at the Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah, NY on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for a Memorial Service in Jackson’s honor with Reverend Tim Wagner officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be given to a charity of your choice.
