Obituary of Bernard Michael Garber
Bernard Michael Garber, “Mike” age 72 died Tuesday, May 14th after a long struggle to recover from an Aortic Dissection he suffered in December of 2018. Mike was a longtime resident of Heritage Hills in Somers, NY.
Mike was born to the late Bernard A. and Dorothy C. (Cavanaugh) Garber on January 3, 1947. Mike attended St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Katonah, NY (Class of 1961) and Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, NY (Class of 1965). He spent the next two years at St. Michael’s College of the University of Toronto then transferred to the University of Colorado where he received his BA in Anthropology in 1969.
Mike enjoyed swimming, tennis, and gardening; he was an avid reader, gifted cartoonist, passionate supporter of pro-life issues, and a loyal friend to many. He recently retired from Southern Westchester BOCES.
Mike is survived by his brothers, J. Brady Garber of White Plains, NY, Clinton D. Garber of Somers, NY, and Gregory F. Garber of Newtown, PA; his nephews Colby E. Garber and his wife, Rozie of Perkasie, PA; Jeremy B. Garber of Portland, OR, and his niece Tiffany N. Krzyzkowski and her husband Greg of Burlington, NJ, and 3 grand nieces, Hayden Garber, Cassandra Garber and Riley Garber. Mike’s sister Mary Ellen Garber predeceased him in 2001.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. at Clark Associates Funeral Home, Katonah, NY. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 20th at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s RC Church, 95 Plum Brook Rd. Somers, NY 10589. Burial will follow at St Francis Cemetery, Lexington Avenue, Mt. Kisco.
