Obituary of Broaddus Johnson

Johnson, Broaddus Jr., a long-time resident of Bedford, NY gently passed away on Tuesday, January 26th, at the age of 93. Known by family and friends as “Speed”, he served as a Lieutenant in the Army Air Force and later graduated from Yale University in 1948. He worked in advertising sales at NBC in New York for most of his business career. Later he followed his calling and was ordained as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in 1992. He fulfilled his responsibilities through St Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Bedford and in surrounding communities with dedication and compassion until very recently. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kate deForest Johnson, and children, W. Macy Johnson, Andrew B. Johnson, and Kate Knapp Johnson and their families, including 7 grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all. Services will be held at St Matthew’s Church in Bedford, NY on Saturday, February 6th at 10:30, followed by a reception in the Parish House at the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Matthew’s Episcopal Church.
