Obituary of John J. Manning

John Joseph Manning, son of Joseph A. Manning and Alice R. Manning (McAndrews) and brother to his late sister Patricia Healy, passed peacefully at his home in South Salem, NY, on December 4th. John was born and raised in the Bronx, NYC, and lived a wonderful life to the age of 89.

John is survived by his loving wife Fran, his children Jeff (Liz), John (Karen), Jeanne (Matt Robinson), Valerie, and Christine (Jim Ingersoll), his grandchildren Sara (Roc), Joe (Rachael), John, Erin, Brooke, May, Melody, Gunnar, Jake, Stephen, Lainie, and Jimmy, his great grandchild Chloe, and his nieces Patty (Michael) Healy-Hanahoe and Pam (Bill) Healy-Reilly, and nephew Craig (Pam) Healy.

John cherished a devoted marriage of more than 57 years. He enjoyed a prosperous 34-year career with the FDNY. He was a Firefighter on Ladder 31 in the Bronx, promoted to Lieutenant on Engine 48 in the Bronx, and achieved the rank of Captain on Ladder 143, stationed in Queens. John was an avid golfer and loved a good game of billiards. He spent most of his retirement with family and friends relishing weekends in the Adirondacks. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in all of us, and his light will continue to shine bright.

A memorial visitation will be held on December 26th from 5pm to 9pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY 10536. A cemetery memorial service will be held on December 27th starting at 10am from Clark Associates Funeral Home with a procession to South Salem Cemetery (11am), 85 Spring Street, South Salem, NY 10590. A celebration of John’s life will be held immediately after the cemetery memorial service at The Horse & Hound, 94 Spring Street, South Salem, NY 10590.
