Obituary of Rita Chiasson McCabe

McCabe, Rita Chiasson 96, died peacefully in her home, with her family by her side on December 22, 2016 in Bedford, NY. She was born October 11, 1920 in Glacé Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia to the late Adelard Chiasson and Mary Sampson Chiasson. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, George W. McCabe, Jr. Rita is survived by her children: George & Gina McCabe, Poulsbo, WA, Carol Grimes, Bedford, NY, Mary Jane & Chip Raymond, South Salem, NY, Elaine & Craig Reynolds, Daniel Island, SC, Philip & Terry McCabe, Greenwich, CT David & Barbara McCabe, Beacon, NY and Amy & Patrick Jennings, Fairfield, CT. Cherished grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and friends of her extended family. At the age of 3, Rita moved from Nova Scotia to Waltham, MA with her family and then to Bedford, NY in 1941 when she married the love of her life. She retired from the Post Office in Bedford Village in 1980. Her home was a gathering place for many friends and extended family for the last several decades. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, Katonah, NY. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 30th at 10:00 am at St. Patricks RC Church, 7 Pound Ridge Road, Bedford, NY. Interment to follow at Bedford Union Cemetery, Clinton Road, Bedford, NY. Memorial donations may be sent to the Bedford Fire Department or Catholic Charites.
