Tom and I grew up together in the summers of our youth in Wainscott.NY, and this is a very sad day for me. Our parents were best of friends and lived across a potato field from each other, and the Meyers often took me on their deep sea fishing adventures with Tom and his brother Hank. We spent most of our time riding waves at the Georgica beach, and in our "wild" college years we would meet up on Friday nights at our favorite Wainscott bar the Stage Door with our friends, and catch up by sampling exotic cocktails (Stingers seems to come to mind).
After college we sort of lost track of each other because I got drafted into the Army and Tom got lucky and married Betsy, his college sweetheart . My deepest sympathy to Betsy, and to his sons and family. Bob Elliott

I remember Tom. I became interested in birds early, but when I heard about Tom and the bluebirds, I managed to arrange a visit to their beautiful place in Bedford. I saw feeders full of goldfinches, one on every peg! And he showed me best locations, and orientations of bluebird houses. He told me how the bugs the parents feed get larger every day, and that he could tell about how old the babies were just buy seeing what the adults were bringing to the nest. When he opened the top and I saw the bluebird babies for the first time, I felt a sense of awe and like I was in the presence of something holy. Then Tom placed a baby bird in my hand. Unforgettable. Rest in peace, Tom Meyer. And thank you for all the joy you helped the world to see.
