I first met Don, though a mutual friend, Carl Pugliese.
It was the beginning if a long friendship of over forty years. Gerda and I feel privileged to have visited Don in his studio and have good memories of both Collette and Don. After leaving New York for our new home in Arizona, Don and I kept in frequent contact, discussing art, art markets, politics and just general conversation.
We have a few of Don’s works. One in particular is a piece Don did for Gerda, on commission, of a native mother peering lovingly at her baby in a cradle board.
I’ll always remember his humor, insight and above all, his love of our country, expressed in his art. He was a great artist and illustrator, a rare talent. He will stay in our hearts and thoughts for as long as we live.
