Obituary of Rosario Salvatore Carlino

Carlino, Rosario Salvatore, (Sal), known as Sarino by family was 85 years old when he died on Saturday, June 25 in Lake Placid, New York. For the past 5 years he lived with his daughter Sarina Nicola in Lake Placid, New York where he moved to better care for his wife Rose. His devotion to Rose has had a lasting impression on all who met him. Prior to living with his daughter, he lived in Heritage Hills in Somers, NY with Rose, his wife of 62 years. Sarino and Rose met as kids growing up in the same Italian American neighborhood in upper Manhattan. Rose’s brother and Sarino were best friends. Sarino was born on October 15, 1930 in Manhattan, NY. He was the son of Italian immigrants, and spent his early childhood in Sicily. Sarino was a US Marine veteran and served during the Korean War. Sarino was the proprietor of Sal’s Sunoco, a service station in Port Chester, NY for many years. He was honest, hard-working, and trusted by the many loyal customers he served. Sarino will be remembered as a strong, capable, responsible, handsome and happy man. He was the perfect role model as husband and father. He is survived by his wife Rose, and his six children: Sarina Nicola, Lake Placid, New York, Bernadette Rabb, Coconut Creek, FL, Louis Carlino, Boulder, CO, Steven Carlino, Delray Beach, FL, Nancy Loughran, Shrub Oak, NY, and Susan Gasparini, Newtown, CT. Sarino was blessed with 9 grandchildren, and one great grandchild on the way. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY on Friday, July 1 at 11:30am. Interment will follow at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W Stevens Avenue in Hawthorne, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org.
