Obituary of Virginia M. Bartels

Virginia Mary Bartels of Somers, formerly of Katonah, died Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at her home, just 5 days shy of her 86th birthday. 

She was born on May 1, 1936 in Mt. Vernon, to the late Marguerite and Joseph Burley and grew up in Bronxville.

She attended Catholic schools in New Rochelle and completed 1 year of nursing school. After her children were born she volunteered at their school and also at St. Mary's Church in Katonah for many years. 

Virginia is predeceased by her husband Richard Sr. whom she was married to for 57 years. She is the loving mother of Denise, Gretchen (Ray), Spider, Richard (Dawn), Dale (Jim), Kyle and Patty (Joe). She is the grandmother of Kristy, Neil, Casey, Eric (Jessica), Brian (Alexandra), Keith, Katie, Isabel, Erin, Allison and Leo and five great grandchildren. Virginia is survived by two of her five siblings, Kathleen Broderick and Dorothy Rouget and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's RC Church, 55 Valley Rd, Katonah, NY on Monday, May 2nd at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Webster Avenue and East 233rd Street, Bronx, NY 10470.
