Obituary of Joseph Solimine, Jr.

Joseph Solimine Jr., retired Professor of English, died on Saturday, June 25th, at the age of 87, in his home in Somers. 

 

He was surrounded by his wife of 64 years, his two children and a number of his grandchildren.

 

He will be remembered for his great love of  family and for the breadth of his knowledge and enjoyment of literature and the arts.

 

He was born in Newark N.J to Joseph and Anna-Marie Solimine. He attended Montclair Academy in NJ and Brown University in Providence, RI.;he pursued studies in Victorian literature at the University of Rhode Island and the University of Pennsylvania.  He taught primarily at Youngstown State University in Ohio and, more recently, at Monmouth College in New Jersey an the New School in NYC.

 

In addition to his wife Ann, of Somers, he is survived by a son, William Solimine of Purdys, a daughter, Helen Ryser of Cross River, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
