Obituary of Nancy Patterson
Anna Marie “Nancy” Patterson
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Marie “Nancy” Patterson, age 85, of Somers, NY and a long-time resident of Katonah, NY. Nancy passed away peacefully at Northern Westchester Hospital on July 15, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born May 11, 1937 in New York City, the sixth child of James and Anna Flynn, who had immigrated from Ireland. Nancy came from humble beginnings and became a strong, determined woman who was exceptionally sweet and caring. She attended Thorpe Secretarial High school in Manhattan, and graduated in 1955.
Nancy worked for New York Telephone company until she began raising her family. While raising her children, Nancy worked for the Town of Bedford performing the Dog Licensing census and as a school crossing guard. Once her children became older, she worked for Kellogg and Lawrence in Katonah and Curtis Instruments in Mt. Kisco. She took up many hobbies, including sewing, gardening, tennis, running, and ballroom dancing. She was an extraordinary storyteller. She was a devoted communicant of St. Mary’s church in Katonah. She treasured her time with her large family on family vacations to Cape May, New Jersey, and especially enjoyed her numerous trips to Spain.
Nancy’s favorite job was “Mom” to her 5 children, and “Grammie” to her 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was a fantastic Mom and a gift to everyone who knew her. We now know we have an angel to watch over us.
Nancy leaves behind her devoted husband of 64 years, Kenneth Patterson. She is survived by her children Terri Gehrer (Bob), Daniel Patterson (Dianna), Nancy Lynch (Rich), Kristine Weissleder, and son-in-law Jim Goulden. She will be missed by her grandchildren Ally, Katie, Sean, Jillian, Bailey, Connor, Lindsay, Danny, Kellie, Cassie, Evan, Ana, Sienna and great grandson Quinn. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carrie Goulden and grandson Chris Gehrer. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and numerous lifelong treasured friends.
